What is Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 THC (Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid. It’s one of the minor compounds from the cannabis plant and not as abundant as Delta 9 THC or cannabidiol (CBD). Delta 8 occurs naturally in cannabis in very small quantities. This makes direct extraction inefficient and expensive. To meet market demand, manufacturers have developed a process to convert hemp-derived CBD into Delta 8 through chemical synthesis.

Delta 8 is chemically similar to Delta 9 but with a slightly different molecular structure. The main difference is the location of a specific double bond in their carbon chains. For Delta 8, it's on the eighth carbon, while for Delta 9, it's on the ninth. This small difference in chemical structures is why Delta 8 interacts with your body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) in a similar way to Delta 9 THC.

Is Delta 8 psychoactive?

Delta 8 can get you high if you consume enough of it. It all comes down to the amount you take, the method of consumption, and some individual factors such as your tolerance and body chemistry.

Delta 8 interacts with your ECS, just like other cannabinoids do. The ECS is this complex network of receptors spread throughout your body, including your brain. It regulates all sorts of things such as mood, appetite, pain sensation, and memory. By binding to and activating CB1 receptors, Delta 9 produces psychoactive effects. Delta 8 also binds to these receptors (although weaker than Delta 9). This is why the high from Delta 8 is described as milder or more clear-headed.

A 2022 study explains that Delta 8 gives users the desired medicinal and recreational effects without as much of the anxiety and brain fog accompanied with higher doses of Delta 9. The study suggests that this gentler experience probably stems from the weaker connection Delta 8 makes with our cannabinoid receptors compared to Delta 9, so users can enjoy a milder high while remaining functional.

Through the activation of CB1 receptors, Delta 8 produces:

  • A sense of relaxation and calmness
  • Mild euphoria and mood elevation
  • Pain relief
  • Anxiety relief
  • Increased appetite
  • Slightly altered perception of time

The intensity of these effects depends on your tolerance, body chemistry, and the dose you take. While some find Delta 8 to be “just right” others experience its effects more intensely, feeling out of control or anxious.

If you're looking to enjoy the benefits of Delta 8 without feeling overly intoxicated, our low-dose gummies are an excellent and safe choice. Cannabis microdoses allow you to experience the calming and pain-relieving effects of Delta 8 while staying clear-headed and productive.

Try Delta 8 Elevate gummies with a precisely measured 12.5 mg per serving and find your sweet spot between therapeutic effects and maintaining your daily routine.

“I enjoyed these thoroughly. Of all the THC gummies I've had (and I've had my fair share), these are my favorite. They live up their name by elevating my mood & getting my mind right. Highly recommended.”

Can Delta 8 cause side effects?

Excessive amounts of Delta 8 can lead to side effects such as:

  • Dry mouth
  • Red eyes
  • Increased heart rate
  • Anxiety or paranoia
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Short-term memory impairment
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Altered time perception
  • Coordination problems
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Nausea (particularly with very high doses)
  • Changes in appetite

Everyone's experience with Delta 8 is different. If you're new to Delta 8 or cannabis in general, start with a low dose and see how your body responds. Take it slow, give yourself time to feel the effects, and gradually increase your dose if desired. Finding your sweet spot is key to a positive experience.

Is Delta 8 safe for daily use?

When used responsibly, Delta 8 is safe for daily use. Delta 8 THC products have therapeutic benefits and their beneficial properties become more pronounced the longer you take them.

Microdosing Delta 8 involves taking very small amounts of cannabis regularly (every day or every other day) to experience its health benefits without adverse effects. Microdosing Delta 8 can reap potential benefits such as anxiety relief, chronic pain management, and improved mood while minimizing the potential risk of side effects or tolerance buildup. Low doses also allow you to maintain clarity and functionality throughout your day.

Explore microdosing with our Delta 8 THC gummies. These low-strength 12.5 mg edibles are an excellent choice for newcomers and experienced users alike who are looking to fine-tune their daily cannabinoid intake for optimal wellness.

Product QUIZ

How long do Delta 8 effects last?

Delta 8's effects can stick around for quite a while if you opt for reliable and controlled consumption methods such as gummies. Our tasty treats take 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in, but once they do, you're looking at a good 4–6 hours of effects, sometimes longer.

Vaping or smoking Delta 8 works faster, but the effects don’t last as long, typically 1–3 hours.

Your metabolism, weight, tolerance, and how much you take all play a part in how long you'll feel the effects. Gummies are great because they offer a more gradual, extended experience that's easier to manage. Whether you're new to Delta 8 or a seasoned user, edibles give you more control over your experience throughout the day.

Is Delta 8 legal?

Most Delta 8 products on the market are made by chemically converting CBD extracted from hemp. This way, the manufacturers take advantage of a legal loophole that allows its sale in many places where cannabis is illegal.

Products containing Delta 8 are federally legal if they are made in compliance with two conditions set by the 2018 Farm Bill:

  1. If they are derived from hemp.
  2. If the product contains no more than 0.3% of THC by dry weight.

Though these conditions make Delta 8 legal on a federal level, it is illegal in fourteen U.S. states:

  • Alaska
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Iowa
  • Idaho
  • Kentucky
  • Montana
  • Mississippi
  • New York
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Utah

All our products, including our edibles with Delta 9 and Delta 8, are compliant with conditions set by the Farm Bill. Just in case, here’s our guide to the state-to-state legality of THC

Delta 8 psychoactive FAQ

Delta 8 THC is a psychoactive component from the hemp plants, but it rarely causes hallucinations at typical doses. It interacts with cannabinoid receptors to produce effects which are milder than those of Delta 9. Most users report relaxation and euphoric effects rather than hallucinations.

Consuming high doses or combining with other substances could lead to more intense psychological effects. The chemical synthesis process used to create Delta 8 from hemp-derived CBD raises concerns about product purity and potential health risks. Always choose products from reputable sources to minimize adverse events. If you experience any concerning effects, stop use and consult a healthcare provider.

Delta 8 interacts with the endocannabinoid system, particularly CB1 receptors in the brain. Users often report feeling relaxed, experiencing euphoria, and altered time perception. Unlike Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 typically provides a clearer-headed high with potentially fewer negative effects such as anxiety and paranoia. Some users report improved focus, while others might experience slight brain fog. Effects depend on the dosage, individual physiology, and tolerance.

Delta 8 THC can produce euphoric effects. Many users report feelings of happiness and well-being after consuming Delta 8-THC containing products. This euphoria is often described as a gentle, uplifting sensation because of the gentle way Delta 8 interacts with cannabinoid receptors.

The intensity of Delta 8’s euphoria varies depending on dosage, physiology, and tolerance. Some users find it provides a functional euphoria, allowing clear-headedness while enjoying a mood boost. This has made it popular in the cannabis industry, especially where Delta 9 THC requires medical authorization. Delta-8 use can produce the high and can have intoxicating effects at extremely high doses.

There's no direct evidence linking Delta 8 to manic episodes. In users with a history of bipolar disorder or mood disorders or those sensitive to certain cannabis compounds, Delta 8 could trigger mood changes and other adverse effects such as paranoia and in the most extreme cases, loss of consciousness. Most users report feeling energized or experiencing an elevated mood, but typically not to the extent of mania.

If you have pre-existing mental health conditions, consult a healthcare provider before using Delta 8 or any cannabis products.

Relaxation is one of the most commonly reported effects of Delta 8. This minor cannabinoid interacts with CB1 receptors in the endocannabinoid system to promote a sense of calm. Unlike Delta 9, Delta 8 often provides relaxation without intense sedation or anxiety. Users report feeling a gentle wave of calmness, easing both physical and mental tension. This can be beneficial for those dealing with stress or sleep issues.

Feeling particularly high on Delta 8 THC could be a result of:

  • Potency: While often milder than Delta 9, Delta 8 is still a potent psychoactive compound.
  • Dosage: Higher doses can produce more intense effects.
  • Individual factors: Your personal tolerance, metabolism, and sensitivity to cannabinoids.
  • Consumption method: Inhaling (vaping or smoking) leads to faster and more intense effects than slower-acting edibles.
  • Lack of tolerance: If you're new to Delta 8 or medicinal cannabis products, you might be more sensitive to its effects.
  • Combination with other substances: Mixing Delta 8 with other psychoactive compounds can intensify the high.
  • Expectations and setting: Your mindset and environment can influence how you perceive the effects.

If you're consistently feeling uncomfortably high, reduce your dosage or try a different consumption method to find your optimal experience.

Delta 8 can cause brain fog in some users. Brain fog, characterized by difficulty concentrating or mental haziness, is a reported side effect of cannabinoids such as Delta 9 THC when consumed in high doses.

Many users find Delta 8 produces less cognitive impairment than Delta 9. The occurrence often depends on dosage, individual tolerance, and consumption method. Some users report increased focus with Delta 8, especially at low doses. Higher doses are more likely to induce brain fog. Product quality can play a role: pure, well-manufactured products are less likely to cause unwanted side effects.

50 mg of Delta 8 THC is a high dose likely to produce significant psychoactive effects in most users. This amount is substantial and can induce a strong high, especially for those with lower tolerance. Effects include intense relaxation, euphoria, altered time perception, and potentially some anxiety in sensitive users. The high could last several hours, especially if consumed as an edible.

Such a high dose isn't typically recommended, especially for beginners. Most users find effective results with much lower doses, often in the 5–30 mg range.
