Do Buzz Drops™ make you fail a drug test? - namaCBD

Buzz Drops are microdosed cannabis products with just 2.5 mg of THC, but even these trace amounts can be detected by drug tests. This means you might end up with a positive result if you're screened after using them.

If you have a drug test coming up, avoid Buzz Drops for a while. Once you're in the clear, feel free to explore our THC-infused drinks, but always remember to enjoy responsibly and in moderation.

About drug tests

Drug tests are scientific analyses that detect the presence of specific substances or their metabolites in a person's body. Employment screenings, medical diagnoses, legal proceedings, athletic competitions, and many other settings use them.

These tests examine biological samples for evidence of drug use or exposure. Here’s how:

  1. Sample collection: A biological specimen (urine, blood, hair, etc.) is taken from the individual.
  2. Screening: The sample undergoes initial screening, often using immunoassay technology. This quick test detects drug classes but may produce false positives.
  3. Confirmation: If the screening is positive, a more accurate test is performed using gas or liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS or LC-MS). This verifies the presence and quantity of specific substances.
  4. Interpretation: A medical review officer (MRO) analyzes the results and incorporates factors that could affect the outcome into their conclusion.

This procedure is similar across most drug test types.

Types of drug tests

The type of drug test administered depends on which drug is being tested for, how recent the drug use might be, and practical factors such as cost and ease of testing.

Urine drug tests

Urine drug tests are the most common type of drug screening.

  • They are the standard for most workplace and clinical screenings because they balance accuracy, affordability, and ease of collection.
  • These tests can detect drug use that occurred within the past few days.
  • They screen for a broad spectrum of substances, from marijuana to opioids.
  • Compared to other methods, urine tests are cost-effective and easy to administer.
  • The sample collection process is non-invasive, which makes it more comfortable for the person being tested.

Blood drug tests

Blood drug tests are a highly accurate method of detecting recent drug use.

  • They provide precise measurements of active drug levels in the body at the time of testing.
  • They have a relatively short detection window, typically showing drug use within hours to a few days.
  • This method is more invasive than other types of drug tests because it requires drawing blood from the individual.
  • Blood tests are generally more expensive to administer than urine tests.
  • They are used in situations that require immediate results, such as medical emergencies or DUI investigations.

Hair follicle tests

Hair follicle tests are a unique approach to drug screening.

  • These tests can detect drug use over an extended period, typically up to 90 days.
  • Hair tests are extremely difficult to cheat or tamper with. This makes them highly reliable.
  • They are more expensive to conduct than standard urine or saliva tests.
  • Hair follicle tests may not detect very recent drug use because it takes time for substances to appear in the hair.
  • This method assesses long-term patterns of drug use, so they are useful in certain employment or legal contexts.

Saliva drug tests

Saliva drug tests are becoming increasingly popular for their convenience and effectiveness.

  • They are simple to administer, requiring just a swab of the inside of the cheek.
  • Saliva tests are difficult to tamper with, which makes them more reliable.
  • These tests are good at detecting very recent drug use, typically within a few hours to days.
  • They are less invasive than blood or urine tests.
  • Saliva tests have a shorter detection window compared to urine tests.
  • Saliva tests are gaining popularity in workplace and roadside screenings because of their ease of use and ability to detect recent drug use.

Sweat patch tests

Sweat patch tests offer a distinct approach to drug screening.

  • They require a patch to be worn on the skin for several days to collect sweat.
  • They detect drug use that occurs throughout the entire period the patch is worn.
  • Sweat tests provide continuous monitoring, unlike single-sample methods.
  • This method is less common than other drug testing approaches.
  • Sweat patches capture drug use patterns over an extended timeframe.
  • Despite reliability, sweat tests are less common because they take longer and require special analysis.

Breath tests

Breath tests are primarily used to detect alcohol consumption.

  • They provide immediate results for blood alcohol content.
  • These tests are non-invasive and easy to administer.
  • Law enforcement often uses breath tests in roadside sobriety checks.
  • The use of breath tests for substances other than alcohol is still in development.

What can drug tests detect?

Drug tests can detect a wide range of substances, including:

  • Marijuana and hemp compounds
  • Cocaine
  • Amphetamines (including methamphetamine and ecstasy)
  • Opioids (heroin, morphine, codeine)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Barbiturates
  • Methadone
  • Propoxyphene
  • Alcohol
  • Anabolic steroids
  • Synthetic cannabinoids (K2, Spice)

What is the typical detection threshold for THC?

THC is the main psychoactive component in the cannabis plant. At sufficient amounts, it can produce the euphoric feelings users refer to as the “high.” Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is what most drug tests are looking for.

  • The most commonly used drug test is the urine test. It screens for THC metabolites with an initial cutoff of 50 ng/mL and a confirmation threshold of 15 ng/mL. A test will flag as positive if it detects 50 ng/mL or more initially, and then confirm the result if it finds 15 ng/mL or more in a follow-up test.
  • Blood tests can detect active THC, but they have a shorter detection window, usually just a few hours to days after use.
  • Hair tests offer a much longer detection period. They can show THC use for up to 90 days, but they're less commonly used.
  • Saliva tests are gaining popularity for their ability to detect recent THC use.

The amount of THC that causes a positive result varies between different tests and labs. Frequency of use, individual metabolism, and body fat percentage all play a role in how long THC remains detectable in your system. Even low-dose products such as our Buzz Drops can produce a positive test result.

Our THC drinks contain an equal mix of THC and cannabidiol (CBD). CBD isn’t typically targeted by standard drug tests. CBD products that contain trace amounts of THC can trigger a positive result. This is more likely with full-spectrum CBD products than with CBD isolates.

If you’re subject to drug testing, exercise caution with any cannabis-derived substances. We know it's tough to resist our delicious buzztails™, especially when you're looking to unwind. But if you have a test on the horizon, hold off until you're in the clear and create your own custom-infused cannabis drinks at home.

Here’s how to create stunning THC mocktails.

Product QUIZ

How much THC and CBD are in Buzz Drops?

We designed our liquid THC drops with simplicity and efficacy in mind, so it contains just three ingredients: purified water, water-soluble THC, and water-soluble CBD. Each full dropper of Buzz Drops packs 2.5 mg of THC and 2.5 mg of CBD.

This precise formulation allows users to easily manage their intake and experience. Users have the freedom to adjust their consumption based on personal preference or tolerance. If you’re seeking a milder effect, half a dropper would deliver 1.25 mg of each cannabinoid. Those looking for a stronger experience could opt for a double dose, resulting in 5 mg of THC and 5 mg of CBD.

Microdoses of THC per full dropper are a relatively low dose, but they can still be detected in a drug test, especially with regular use.

Does repeated cannabis use affect drug screening tests?

We’ve mentioned this already, but repeated cannabis use does have an impact on drug screening tests. When you use cannabis regularly, THC and its metabolites build up in your body, especially in fat tissues. It takes longer for your body to clear them out, which affects how long cannabis can be detected in drug tests.

Here’s what that means for different drug tests:

  • For urine tests, occasional users might be clear within a few days. If you're microdosing cannabis frequently, you could test positive for weeks or even months after your last use. Your body slowly releases stored THC from fat cells, even when you're not actively consuming it.
  • Blood tests aren't affected as much by long-term use since they mainly detect active THC. Regular users might still show positive for a longer time than occasional users, with detection times stretching from days to weeks rather than just hours.
  • Hair tests are particularly tricky for regular users. THC metabolites get deposited in your hair as it grows and create a sort of long-term record. A regular cannabis user might test positive for months after quitting.
  • Saliva tests usually detect more recent use, but even these can show longer detection times for frequent users. Instead of the typical 1–3 day window, regular users might test positive for a week or more.

Your metabolism, body composition, and the strength of the cannabis you're using all play a role. Higher-THC products, when used regularly, are more likely to stick around longer in your system than lower-dose options.

Microdosing with 2–10 mg THC per serving (as found in our gummies and beverages) is less likely to accumulate in your system. But even low doses can affect drug tests, though with a shorter detection window. Anything with over 10 mg of THC is more likely to build up in body fat with regular use.

Our low-dose products allow you to enjoy cannabis responsibly while minimizing the risk of long-term buildup and unpleasant side effects. If you're looking for a balanced, controlled experience, try our Energy gummies with just 2.5 mg of THC and 5 mg of CBD per serving. They’re delicious and perfect for a gentle lift whenever you need some mental stimulation.

Do Buzz Drops have side effects?

Buzz Drops™ can have side effects if you consume too high of a dose. The standard recommended dose for beginners is one full dropper, which carries a microdose of THC and CBD. Some cannabis users go double or triple up and report mild euphoria and a light buzz without side effects.

Anything higher than 10 mg of THC can produce some mild adverse effects such as:

  • Drowsiness or sedation
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased appetite
  • Mild anxiety or paranoia
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness
  • Impaired coordination

Start low and go slow, gradually increasing your dose as you become familiar with the effects and your tolerance.

Are Buzz Drops legal?

Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, Delta 9 THC products are federally legal if they meet two key conditions:

  1. The Delta 9 comes from hemp, not marijuana.
  2. The product contains no more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight.

Our cannabis-infused drinks Drops tick both these boxes. We've carefully crafted Buzz Drops to comply with federal law, so they are legal to purchase and enjoy across the country. Here’s a full list of states where Delta 9 THC is legal. (Sorry, Idaho and Kansas, we can't ship there yet.)

Buzz Drops FAQ

Buzz Drops are a safe, low-dose cannabis option, made from hemp-derived THC and CBD. Our products undergo rigorous lab testing for purity and accurate dosing. Like any cannabis product, they may cause mild side effects in some users, such as drowsiness or changes in appetite. Always start with a low dose and see how your body responds.

Many substances can interfere with drug tests. Even low-dose THC products can lead to detectable levels in your system. Here are some things that can interfere with a drug test:

  • Cannabis products
  • Certain prescription medications
  • Some over-the-counter medications
  • Poppy seeds
  • Hemp products
  • Alcohol
  • Herbal supplements
  • Energy drinks (in rare cases)
  • Tonic water (can cause false positives for opiates)
  • Antidepressants
  • Antihistamines
  • NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen)
  • Decongestants
  • B vitamins
  • Protein powders (in some cases)

Individual reactions to these compounds vary from person to person. Always disclose any substances you're taking to the test administrator for accurate results. If you're using Buzz Drops or any cannabis product, be aware that it could show up on a drug test, even if it's legal.

False positives can occur in drug tests. Some over-the-counter medications, prescription drugs, and even certain foods can trigger false positives. For instance, cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine might show up as amphetamines. If you're subject to drug testing, it's best to avoid all cannabis products, including hemp-derived ones.

Buzz Drops are not FDA-approved. The FDA doesn't currently regulate hemp-derived products. Our products are legal under federal law thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized hemp-derived products containing less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. Our products meet these criteria and undergo third-party lab testing for quality and purity. While not FDA-approved, Buzz Drops are produced following strict quality control measures to provide a safe, consistent experience.

If you've got a drug test coming up soon, be mindful of what you consume. Even legal and seemingly harmless substances can affect your test results. To play it safe, here's a list of things you should avoid before a drug test:

  • Cannabis products
  • Hemp-derived edibles
  • Broad-spectrum CBD products
  • Poppy seeds (can cause false positives for opioids)
  • Certain over-the-counter medications
  • Some herbal supplements
  • Alcohol (especially close to the test date)
  • Excessive amounts of vitamin B supplements
  • Energy drinks (in some cases)
  • Certain prescription medications
  • Recreational drugs of any kind

THC can remain detectable in your system for days or even weeks. Always consult with the test administrator about any substances you're taking.

Buzz Drops offer a unique experience that’s different from alcohol but can provide a similar social buzz. Users often report a gentle, uplifting effect without the harsh side effects associated with alcohol. Unlike the wine buzz or beer buzz, Buzz Drops provide a more clear-headed, balanced experience.

Our low-dose cannabis beverages are a healthier alternative to drinking. They offer relaxation and mild euphoria without the risk of a hangover. Everyone's experience with Buzz Drops is different. Use responsibly and be aware of how your body responds.

Buzz Drops are made from hemp-derived Delta-9 THC and CBD, extracted from 100% organic, non-GMO American hemp. They're formulated to provide a balanced ratio of these cannabinoids, containing 2.5 mg of THC and 5 mg of CBD per serving.

This combination causes the entourage effect, where the compounds work together for enhanced benefits. Our drops don't contain any harsh chemicals or additives, just pure, hemp-derived cannabinoids in a convenient liquid form. They're vegan-friendly and free from common allergens.

Some users might experience relaxation with our Buzz Drops which could lead to sleepiness, especially at higher doses, but Buzz Drops are not specifically designed as a sleep aid. The balanced combination of THC and CBD is intended to provide a mild, uplifting experience. Some users report feeling more alert and focused, while others might feel more relaxed.

If you're concerned about sleepiness, start with a low dose and see how your body responds. Also, consider timing—using Buzz Drops earlier in the day is preferable if you're worried about sleep effects.
