How long do Delta 9 edibles last before they expire?

Cannabis edibles have a relatively long shelf life compared to other foods. If they contain ingredients that spoil, they may go bad quickly.

Not our gummies. Our low-dose Delta 9 edibles don’t contain any ingredients that spoil, so their shelf life is around two years.

We infuse our gummies with pure, high-quality cannabis compounds derived from hemp and fresh, organic fruits, so the risk of spoilage within the expiration date is low.

While our gummies and THC mixers won’t go bad after two years, the cannabinoids may lose potency over time. Here is everything you need to know about how long Delta 9 edibles last and how to keep them fresh.

What is Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as Delta 9 THC or Δ-9-THC) is one of the many forms of THC found in hemp and marijuana plants. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is often referred to as the main psychoactive component of cannabis.

At sufficient amounts, THC may produce psychoactive effects such as intense euphoria (the “high”), altered perception of time, heightened sensory perception, and heavy sedation. The more you take, the stronger the effects. We infuse our edibles with low doses of THC to avoid any potential side effects—but add enough to experience the benefits of microdosing cannabis.

THC is found in both hemp and marijuana plants. The hemp plant contains low levels of Delta 9 THC but is still often confused with marijuana. All our cannabis products contain hemp-derived THC, cannabidiol (CBD), and other compounds, so you know their THC levels are low and safe from intense side effects.

What are Delta 9 edibles?

Delta 9 edibles are a type of cannabis-infused food available in the form of gummies, candies, chocolates, caramels, and brownies. At nama, we create the most delicious gummy candies infused with small amounts of THC and other cannabis compounds that deliver the benefits without intoxication or heavy sedation.

If you’re looking for a mellow THC product, our gummies fit the bill. They come in different fruit flavors, making them a delicious and convenient way to indulge. You can order edibles such as our Euphoria Kiwi Raspberry gummies that contain only 10 milligrams of THC, or you can combine THC with CBD to create the entourage effect.

We recommend balancing out THC with CBD because, in the entourage effect, CBD works synergistically with THC to enhance its therapeutic benefits while mitigating potential adverse effects. By combining THC with CBD, you can experience a more balanced and harmonious high, maximizing the potential benefits of both cannabinoids for a smoother and calmer experience overall.

All our products derived from hemp—including our gummies for sleep and our CBD gummies without THC—go through rigorous third-lab lab testing for quality and potency.

Gummies are our thing, but if you’re in the mood for something equally delicious in a glass, give our collection of cannabis-infused drink recipes a go. We can teach you how to craft the most indulgent mocktails in a matter of minutes and how to infuse all your favorite non-alcoholic beverages with our THC Buzz drops

Do edible gummies expire?

Cannabis edibles have an expiration date, just like any other food product. The shelf life of an edible will depend on its ingredients. If an edible contains an ingredient that can spoil (such as dairy), it will have a shorter shelf life. Those that don’t contain ingredients prone to spoilage (such as nama’s), will last longer.

Regardless of the expiration date, the THC in cannabis edibles will lose potency over time. Depending on how they were made and processed, the freshness of edibles can also vary from as little as a few days to as long as two years. Edibles stored in warm or humid conditions or exposed to too much light are more likely to lose their potency.

How long do gummies last after opening?

Once you’ve opened a pack of gummies, their longevity can depend on how well you store them. While our edibles won't go bad in the traditional sense, they are best consumed within two years for maximum effect.

They may still be safe to eat, but their potency and flavor could diminish over time, so it’s best to enjoy our edibles within two years. Freshness is key to getting the most out of your delicious treats.

If you’re worried your edibles may have gone bad or lost potency after opening them, here are some things to look out for:

  • Look at the color. If your edibles have lost their bright color, it's likely time to toss them out.
  • Check for mold. Even a small amount of mold can make edibles unsafe to consume, so it's better to be safe than sorry.
  • Smell your edibles. If your edibles have developed an odor or smell different than usual, it's probably time to get rid of them.
  • Look for signs of dryness, or roughness. This can also indicate that your edibles are no longer fresh.
  • Check the package. Condensation droplets indicate your edibles are no longer airtight and have likely passed their expiration date.

If you’re unsure about the quality of your gummies, it's best to throw them out and order new ones.

How long do gummies last after the expiration date?

After the expiration date, our edibles may still be safe to consume if they've been stored properly and show no signs of spoilage. We guarantee the quality and potency of our products for up to two years, but they may retain their freshness and effectiveness beyond that time frame if stored correctly.

Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to help prolong their freshness. If you're unsure about the safety or quality of your edibles, it's best to err on the side of caution and discard them.

We recommend consuming them within the suggested shelf life to experience the optimal taste and effects. Always prioritize your health and enjoyment by consuming products while they are fresh whenever possible.

When you order our Bliss gummies, we’re positive they won’t last past the first month–they’re just that good. These vegan chews contain only 5 milligrams of THC and 5 milligrams of CBD per gummy, making them the perfect choice for those seeking a balanced and gentle experience. The crisp melon flavor will make them a part of your daily routine for unwinding.

This gummy absolutely helped me unwind after a long physical days work. I used cannabis to unwind every evening for years, until I suddenly couldn’t tolerate it well. Anxiety made it not worth doing.

These Bliss gummies were different though! Only half of the tiny gummy had me in a state of relaxation, motivation, and overall happiness…

Are expired edibles dangerous to consume?

Expired edibles aren't dangerous to consume unless there are clear signs of spoilage (like mold and mildew). In the worst-case scenario, the taste and effectiveness of your edibles may be compromised after their expiration date.

Again, it’s all about how you store your edibles. Make sure there are no signs of spoilage such as mold or off odors. If they haven’t gone bad past the expiration date, you may be safe from upset stomachs or nausea. If they look, smell, or taste off, throw them out and explore our collection of fresh THC gummies that you can order today and receive in a matter of days. (Shipping is free and always will be.)

How long do the effects of Delta 9 gummies last?

The effects of Delta 9 gummies can last between six and eight hours. This depends on individual factors such as:

  • Body chemistry
  • Body weight
  • Tolerance level
  • Metabolic rate

Frequent users with faster metabolisms may feel effects wear off sooner, while occasional users can experience effects for up to eight hours. While some THC consumption methods are fast-acting (with smoking cannabis, you can feel the effects after ten minutes), the effects of gummies take anywhere from 30 minutes to up to two hours to kick in.

This method is healthier than smoking or vaping because it allows the THC compounds to pass through the digestive system and enter the bloodstream without exposing the lungs to harmful chemicals. Edibles also provide longer-lasting therapeutic effects such as anxiety and pain relief.

How to properly store Delta 9 edibles

When it comes to buying and storing Delta 9 THC edibles, it's best to purchase small quantities and reorder periodically, rather than stockpiling them. This way, your edibles can always be fresh and potent.

If you're not careful about how you store your edibles, environmental factors can cause them to degrade quickly. Here are some tips to help you ensure freshness when storing your edibles:

  1. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources. Light and heat can cause the cannabinoids in your edibles to degrade over time.
  2. To avoid destroying cannabinoids and terpenes in the edibles, keep them stored at a temperature below 160 degrees Celsius.
  3. Store your gummies in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. This will help keep out moisture and light while preventing bacteria from spoiling your edibles.
  4. Keep your edibles away from food that might attract rodents or bugs. If possible, store them in a refrigerator or freezer.

Is Delta 9 legal?

The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, known as the 2018 Farm Bill, drew a legal distinction between hemp and marijuana, and legalized Delta 9 THC products on a federal level in the US, provided they meet the following conditions:

  1. The THC concentration in products has to be 0.3% THC or below by dry weight.
  2. The THC has to be extracted from hemp, not marijuana.

All our Delta 9 gummies are federally legal because they meet the criteria of the 2018 Farm Bill.

Most states have adopted Farm Bill criteria into their own legislation. As of November 2022, only Kansas and Idaho have banned all forms of Delta 9 THC, meaning our delicious gummies can be sold in 48 states.

Where to buy the best hemp-derived edibles

You can buy THC edibles at dispensaries in states where recreational marijuana is legal. A much safer choice is to purchase our edibles online anywhere in the country (with the exception of Kansas and Idaho).

Each batch undergoes meticulous third-party lab testing to ensure unparalleled quality and potency, providing you with the confidence that every bite is both safe and pure.

Delta 9 THC Edibles FAQ

Delta 9 is a natural sleep aid and will make you feel sleepy. Low THC dosage can help you fall asleep by reducing symptoms of medical conditions that interrupt your sleep, such as autoimmune illnesses, depression, and anxiety. Hemp-derived Delta 9 edibles are a completely safe consumption method for adults over 21 years of age. All consumers should consult their healthcare practitioner before consuming, and carefully adhere to our dosage instructions. There are no known long-term side effects to taking Delta 9 edibles—but many reported benefits.

Hemp-derived products with Delta 9 are usually undetectable in your blood for 24-48 hours after use, and sometimes even longer for habitual users. The exact amount of time that Delta 9 remains in your system will depend on factors like your metabolism and how much you have consumed. If you are concerned about drug testing, it is best to avoid consuming hemp-derived Delta 9 products.

Delta 9 and Delta 8 are both tetrahydrocannabinol compounds derived from hemp flowers or other parts of the cannabis plant.

The only chemical difference between Delta 9 vs Delta 8 THC is the placement of one particular carbon double bond. Delta 9 has the carbon bond on the 9th carbon atom, while Delta 8’s double bond is on the 8th carbon atom. Due to this small difference in their chemical composition, Delta 9 and Delta 8 have different effects.

Delta 9 can produce:

  • A stronger, more intense "high" if taken at sufficient doses
  • Increased euphoria and perceptual changes
  • Enhanced creativity and sensory experience
  • More relaxation and sedation
  • Longer duration of effects

Delta 8 provides:

  • A milder, "clear-headed" buzz
  • Lower anxiety or fear response
  • Increased focus and mental stimulation
  • Energy-boosting qualities
  • Shortened duration with less "hangover" effect

Many factors will play into how long a person's Delta 8 effects will last. The amount of Delta 8 taken, the person's tolerance, and how the Delta 8 is ingested will all affect the duration of the high. In general, however, the effects of Delta 8 THC can last from 3 to 10 hours.

The exact amount of time will depend on the person. Some people may find that their high wears off after a few hours, while others may find that they are still feeling the effects 10 hours later. No matter how long the high lasts, Delta 8 derived from hemp can be very potent. Start with a low dose and increase gradually as needed.

Taken at the recommended dosage (a single gummy), Delta 9 gummies should have no negative side effects. When you take more than one gummy, you may experience some adverse reactions such as:

  • Intense anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Dizziness
  • Impaired coordination

Always follow dosage guidelines and give previous servings enough time to take full effect before considering another dose.

When it comes to taking Delta 9, it is best to start with microdosing. This means taking a very small amount, such as 1-2 mg, and slowly increasing the recommended dosage until you find the sweet spot that works for you.

An ultra-low dose of cannabis is considered anything less than a milligram of THC. Our Energy gummies contain 2.5 mg of THC per serving.

There are many benefits of microdosing THC, from improving focus and concentration to promoting relaxation. In addition, THC microdoses can help reduce anxiety and nausea. Find the dose that works best for you and stick with it. Start low and go slow, and you'll be sure to find the perfect dose of Delta 9 for your needs.

Check out our guide on how to microdose cannabis for info on the best method of consumption. Hint: it’s edibles.

Delta 9 is more potent than CBD in terms of effects. It interacts strongly with the body’s endocannabinoid system, specifically two main endocannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. CBD, in contrast, has a weaker interaction with receptors.

CBD products (such as CBD oils, CBD gummies, CBD capsules, and CBD tinctures) won't cause a high, but will likely have a mild anxiolytic effect. Delta 9 THC can induce a high at sufficient dosages (much higher than those found in our edible products).

Both compounds have different effects on the body, and each is beneficial in its own way. Together, THC and CBD produce an entourage effect, so it's highly beneficial to take them together. The best way to do so is with full-spectrum CBD products, as they contain low doses of THC in addition to CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids.

If you can't decide whether to take CBD or Delta 9, try our Euphoria gummies that combine the benefits of cannabis compounds. Here’s our guide on the differences between CBD and THC, so give that a read.

The psychoactive compound, Delta 9 THC, found in the cannabis plant can lose potency over an extended period if stored improperly. Factors like exposure to heat, air, light, and moisture cause THC molecules to degrade through oxidation, reducing the effects felt by frequent, occasional, and first-time users when consumed. Airtight, cool, and dark storage conditions slow this loss of potency.

Most perishable cannabis-infused edible gummies and other similar products can last for around 1–2 years if kept in proper conditions. The exact shelf life depends on moisture content, preservatives, and ingredients used during production. After this period, mold growth, food poisoning risks, and potency loss increase.

When stored properly in an airtight container in the freezer, weed gummies, and other cannabis-based edibles can avoid expiration and remain consumable for 24 months or longer. Freezing causes weed compound decarboxylation while preventing microbial growth and slowing THC degradation through oxidation to maximize shelf life. Temperature changes from opening the freezer and condensation forming during thawing can reduce psychoactive potency over an extended period.
